tremendous development with a goal of becoming a cultural
cornerstone of the region. Through synergistic efforts of the

islands protect the Florida mainland from harsh storms, provide
habitat for shore birds and other coastal animals, and provide
unique opportunities for visitors to relax, fish and enjoy nature.
Perdido Key State Recreation Area is a 247-acre barrier island
near Pensacola on the Gulf of Mexico. The wide, white, sandy
beaches and the rolling sand dunes covered with sea oats make this
a pristine oasis along the rapidly developing panhandle.
Blackwater
River State Park:
Blackwater
River State Park is considered one of the purest sandbottom rivers
in the world, the Blackwater River is in its natural state for
almost its entire length. Beginning 45 miles upstream in Alabama,
it continues downstream for 13 miles before emptying into
Blackwater Bay. The river's sand bottom, dark tannin waters and
contrasting large, white sandbars have drawn worldwide attention
and provide the perfect setting for this 590- acre park.The river
attracts paddlers from far and wide and has been designated a
Florida canoe trail. The last two miles of the trail are located
within the park .

War Soldiers Museum
Founded
by a local physician, the museum is a premiere Civil War
educational and historical site with accurate representations of
the Civil War soldiers life during our nation's most violent
period. The excellent quality and quantity of the Museum's diverse
collection is depicted by authentic artifacts, uniforms,
equipment, weapons, art, hand-crafted figurines, and life-sized
camp scenes, including a Confederate Medical Field Hospital with
an amputation in progress, as well as hundreds of personal items

Indian
temple Mound and Museum (Ft Walton Beach)
It
is the largest and most impressive collection of early culture in
the United States. The museum houses interpretive exhibits
depicting 10,000 years of four prehistoric Native American tribes'
occupation. Over 6,000 artifacts of stone, bone, clay and shell
are here, as well as the largest collection of Fort Walton Period
ceramics in the Southeastern United States. Exhibits also include
artifacts from European Explorers, local pirates, Civil War
soldiers and early settlers; the largest Indian mound discovered
along saltwater (1400 A.D.) stands guard beside the museum.

Pickens Visitor Center and Museum
Built
in the early 1800's to fortify the Pensacola Harbour. It was
constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is located at
the west end of Santa Rosa Island. Along with the old fort the
area offers camping, swimming, fishing and other activities,
exhibits, a bookstore and a museum
Gulfarium

America's
second oldest marine park (1955), it hosts Atlantic bottlenose
dolphins, California sea lions, Peruvian penguins, Ridley turtles
and more in 14 fascinating Gulf-edged exhibits. Dolphin stars
Princess and Delilah delight with feats from comedic soccer games
to 18-foot (540cm) leaps.
